Rhinoplasty

For a Better You

What is Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty is the reshaping of the nose and the alignment of the system. The aim is to make the nose better functionally and aesthetically.

The nose is an organ located in the general part of the face and plays a very important role in the appearance of the face. Each nose has a unique shape. Even small changes in the nose can change the facial appearance. People often want to undergo rhinoplasty surgery to achieve the ideal nose shape. Generally accepted proportions and harmony between parts of the face can be the key to a beautiful appearance. Although it is accepted that many people with an attractive appearance have harmony in their bodies, it is not possible to talk about a beauty standard adopted by all people.

One of the most important benefits of the preoperative interview is determining the selection and how much of the surgeon’s expectations can be met. Patients often experience social, cultural, social, etc. They act according to their own perception of beauty, which has developed through influences, and it is revealed internally how the parts of a beautiful burning are produced. The surgeon has a difficult task: To create a nose that the patient, society and the surgeon himself will like. By determining the points that the rhinoplasty candidate takes into consideration, the surgeon tries to understand whether the patient’s parameters or deformities are disabled and to determine the deformities in the nose that should be recommended before surgery. While doing this, we keep in mind their personal judgments, certain rules, proportions, angles and geometric relationships. The existing, existing trace of cartilage; evaluates aging, gender and skin characteristics. He prepares the surgery plan as a result of aesthetic and anatomical evaluations, and selects a doctor whose content is suitable for this plan in order to have an ideal nose.

Anatomy

The fact that the nose is in the middle of the face, both horizontally and vertically, makes it the center of attraction. The nose consists of skin, subcutaneous, muscles, bone-cartilage skeleton and mucosa, from outside to inside. There is a wall consisting of cartilage and bone called the septum in the midline of the nose. On its outer walls, there are functional structures called turbinates that warm and humidify the respiratory air. Skin thickness is one of the most important factors that determine rhinoplasty results. The bone-cartilage skeleton changes during surgery. While thin skin shows all the changes underneath, thick skin may prevent the changes from being seen. Medium skin thickness is best for a better result.

What is the purpose of rhinoplasty?

The main purpose of the surgery is to create a natural and better-looking nose that is compatible with your face. Every surgery is performed to get better results, but it is unrealistic to expect perfect results from every surgery. The outcome of the surgery does not depend only on the skill and experience of the surgeon. It is also related to the patient’s age, general health condition, skin condition, bone skeleton, smoking, wound healing and anatomical structure.

Can I see what my nose will be like after surgery?

Each surgeon follows a different path to demonstrate the anticipated results of the surgery. Mirrors, hand-made drawings, life-size photographs and computer programs can be used for this purpose. The computer environment provides an environment where the patient and the surgeon can share their ideas and agree on expectations and results. The image on the computer cannot give a definitive and guaranteed result about the post-operative situation. This needs to be known by patients.

Successful results are achieved through a good patient-physician relationship.

Should photographs be taken before surgery?

Photographs should be taken before surgery. The surgeon takes photographs from 6 different directions: front view, 2 lateral, 2 oblique and bottom. Additional photography may be taken depending on the patient's condition. It is necessary to photograph again 6 months and 1 year after the surgery.

Will there be scars on my face after rhinoplasty?

There are two main approaches to rhinoplasty. Endonasal (closed) and external (open) approach. In the endonasal approach, since all incisions are made through the nose, there is no scar on the skin. The external approach has become a popular approach due to the advantages it brings. In this approach, a V-shaped incision is made passing through the narrowest part of the nostrils. This method, which leaves no visible scars, is preferred by 90% of doctors. It is also possible to get good results with the Endonasal approach performed by experienced surgeons. As a result, which approach is preferred is entirely up to the surgeon and will not cause any negativity for the patient.

How long will follow-up take after surgery?

Rhinoplasty is a surgery with predictable results. The nose is a dynamic organ and the surgeon can predict the shape the nose will take after wound healing and in the long term. The surgeon examines the patient at regular intervals according to the patient's needs, more frequently in the first 3 weeks. The routine follow-up protocol is to check the patient at 6 weeks, 3 months, 6 months, 1 year and then once a year. With this protocol, the patient and surgeon can evaluate the results of the surgery together.
